FREE BUILDING BLOCKS FOR LITERACY® Website Launch

It is my great pleasure to share with you our FREE BUILDING BLOCKS FOR LITERACY® website today!  This early literacy program contains the same research- proven strategies as the original BUILDING BLOCKS site AND it provides users the opportunity to create a community by sharing their own strategies and videos. Reformatted in a Facebook-like design, BUILDING BLOCKS is an even better tool for educators, providers, and parents to help prepare young children for literacy success when they enter school.   With 47% of children in this country entering Kindergarten not ready to learn, we are proud to be offering a no cost opportunity for everyone to learn about play-based, developmentally appropriate activities for our youngest learners.

Please share this website with anyone you think might benefit from it. I also hope you will join the BUILDING BLOCKS FOR LITERACY® interactive and engaging social network and share your ideas with others.

Thanks for your interest, I know you will find it time well-spent!

I would love to share this website with my daughter, who has a two year old child, whom I feel might benefit by youtr program. He will be three this coming July and needs more stimulation to help him to speak, though he is slowly learning. I learned about your program through an interview with your founder on public television.

Is this a free 12 credit online workshop? And how would I register for it? Thank you, billie

Anne, thank you for your question about using Building Blocks for a 3 year old. Building Blocks offers fun and engaging activities such as rhyming games and songs that would be ideal for a 3 year old learning about language. We recommend beginning with the self-paced, parent portion of the program for some ideas. Keep us posted on your experience with Building Blocks!

Billie, thank you for your question regarding certification. Completing Building Blocks provides certification for 12 professional development hours or continuing education credits. The program is free with certification available for $50. Visit the Certification page for a detailed explanation of what is available. If you have additional questions, go to “Contact Us” and send us an email. To get started with the self-paced program, go to the Registration page.

Jeaninnh, thank you for your question about using the program for English language learners. The information in BUILDING BLOCKS FOR LITERACY® can be used for scaffolding to developmental levels. The Language Development module explains how children learn language and gives examples of modeling language development and usage. In the Shared Book Reading section, one strategy, the 3-S, uses pictures in books to build vocabulary. The phonological awareness module discusses the use of rhymes to play with sounds and teaching the components within syllables helps in understanding how the sounds in our language blend together to form words.
